William Joel

William Joel is an American computer scientist , composer, and poet .

Joel received his PhD in Computer Science from Syracuse University in 1985 with a thesis on the mathematical foundations of computer animation. He heads the Department of Computer Science at Western Connecticut State University and is the director of its Center for Graphics Research .

In addition, he emerged as a composer of predominantly chamber music works, in which he combines influences from new music, jazz and folk . He also published poems and works as a storyteller.
