William Jordan, Baron Jordan

William Brian Jordan, Baron Jordan , CBE (born January 28, 1936 ), known as Bill Jordan is a British economist and politician.

Walter and Alice Jordan's son went to Barford Road Secondary modern school in Birmingham .

From 1986 to 1995 he was President of the Amalgamated Engineering Union (AEU) , later renamed the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union (AEEU), and was also a member of the Central Committee of the Trades Union Congress (TUC). In 1995 he became general secretary of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions ; he held the post until 2002.

He was also director of the London School of Economics for many years from 1987 to 2002 and the BBC from 1988 to 1998 .

Jordan was named Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1992 and was promoted to Life Peer on June 5, 2000 as Baron Jordan , of Bournville in the County of West Midlands .

He has been married to Jean Ann Livesey since 1958; they have three daughters.
