International Confederation of Free Trade Unions

The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU, English: International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU)) in 1949 after the split of the World Federation of Trade Unions as a merger of Western- democratic unions founded. 233 organizations from 152 countries belonged to it. The seat of the ICFTU was Brussels .

The goals of the ICFTU were the abolition of child and slave labor , the enforcement of international labor rights , the fight against racism and occupational health and safety . He also campaigned for the fight against AIDS and HIV. In 1999 the ICFTU was awarded the Hans Böckler Prize .

The board consisted of 53 members who were elected at the four-year congress. In October 2006 the ICFTU merged with the World Federation of Workers and eight other unions to form the International Trade Union Confederation .
