William O'Brien (politician, 1918)

William O'Brien (born March 6, 1918 in Patrickswell , County Limerick , † November 5, 1994 ) was an Irish politician of the Fine Gael .

Life

O'Brien was initially an employee of the state transport company Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ).

He began his political career in 1969 when he was first elected to the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ) as a candidate for Fine Gael and represented the interest group of the working class in this until 1977. His candidacies for the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ) in 1969 and 1973 were unsuccessful.

Then in 1977 he was elected as a member of the House of Commons ( Teachta Dála ) . After several re-elections, he was a member of the Limerick West constituency for ten years . In 1987 he decided not to run again and left the House of Commons.
