The William and Mary Quarterly

The William and Mary Quarterly (abbreviated WMQ , ISSN  0043-5597 ) is an Americanist journal that deals with the history and culture of North America since colonization, ie from the 15th to the beginning of the 19th century.

The William and Mary Quarterly is published by the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture in Williamsburg , Virginia and appears four times a year (January, April, July, October). The geographic focus is on North America; Most of the contributions have a historical focus, although articles from other areas (such as archeology or cultural studies) are also accepted. The periodical is named after the College of William and Mary , where it was founded in 1892. Since 1944 it appears in the third episode (Third Series), the first episode appeared in 27 volumes from 1892 to 1919, the second in 23 volumes from 1921 to 1943. The first two episodes concentrated on the history of Virginia , only with the beginning of Third episode, the range of topics was expanded to all of North America. The circulation, about half of which is taken by private and institutional subscribers, was around 3,700 in 2010 and around 3,500 in 2019. The journal is available online through JSTOR . The editorial board included Bruce H. Mann , Peter C. Mancall , Cathy D. Matson , Carla G. Pestana, and Mark A. Peterson in 2010 , and Sharon Block , Christian Ayne Crouch , Patrick Griffin , Heather Kopelson, and Michael Witgen in 2019 .
