from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Williamston House , also Williamstoun House , is a mansion near the Scottish town of Methven in the Council Area Perth and Kinross . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

Laurence Oliphant of Gask acquired the land in 1650 from William Blair of Kinfauns . Williamston House was probably built around 1657, although a year of construction before 1650 cannot be excluded. It was the seat of the Gask Lairds . The north wing was added around 1800. Its dormers were added later. In the course of the 20th century, a grand piano was added for the bathroom. In the 1960s, Williamston House served as a farmhouse.

description

Williamston House is isolated in a sparsely populated region about six kilometers southwest of Methven. The two-story building is unusually designed; in particular, it is unusually low compared to contemporary buildings. It's only lightly reinforced. Its facades are plastered with Harl . A rounded stair tower emerges from the asymmetrically designed façade. A tower with a former waking dream juts out from the inside of the building. There is a sundial on the southwest side .
