Willie Frick

Willie Frick (* 1896 ; † 1964 ) was a German figure skating coach .

Frick, known as the "Boy Wonder of Berlin", moved from his hometown of Berlin to Boston in 1920 to become a trainer at the Skating Club of Boston. He was soon followed by his American wife Cathleen Pope. Both were successful coaches, but also very good show runners. Frick was known for his candle dance, in which he ran around lit candles. In 1946 Frick and his wife became honorary members of the association. The Fricks were coaches for over 40 years and thus looked after almost all the champions who came from this club, including Theresa Weld , Maribel Vinson and Tenley Albright .

Frick died in 1964. In 1981 he became the first German coach to be inducted into the Figure Skating Hall of Fame .
