Bronze statue on Willy-Brandt-Platz in Nuremberg

The Willy Brandt monument on Willy Brandt Platz in Nuremberg commemorates the former Federal Chancellor and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Willy Brandt . The bronze sculpture sitting on a bench was unveiled on November 9th, 2009 in the presence of Ulrich Maly , Josef Tabachnyk , and numerous companions of Brandt, such as Hans-Jochen Vogel .

Around a year earlier, on November 6th, 2008, the artist Josef Tabachnyk won the competition for this monument and thus prevailed against three other submitted designs. The basis for the limited artistic competition was the decision of the Culture Committee of the City of Nuremberg on June 4, 2008.

The monument was financed by the three sponsors Walter Metz (initiator), Bruno Schnell (publisher) and the PSD Bank . The city only took over the construction costs for the integration on Willy-Brandt-Platz including the foundation.
