WinPT ( abbr. For Win dows P rivacy T ray) is a collection of small utilities that under a graphical front end for Windows are summarized that work with GnuPG and encryption of files , texts and emails easier. GnuPG is compatible with the conventional PGP process. WinPT is for Windows what KGpg is for KDE and Seahorse for GNOME .

WinPT is available under the GNU GPL . The software is available in different versions; GnuPG is already included in the complete installation .

Among other things, the user can use the graphical user interface of WinPT:

  • Create keys with assistance
  • Download foreign keys from the key server or import them directly
  • Manage all keys
  • Encrypt and decrypt data asymmetrically or symmetrically
  • Sign electronically and check third party signatures

The further development and active support of WinPT was temporarily suspended on November 1st, 2009. The reasons given were “insufficient resources”. However, on January 20, 2012 it was announced that development would resume. Since then, several beta versions of a version 1.5 have been released.
