Windboard
A wind board (also known as a gable board , wind spring or place board ) is generally a board that covers the roof overhang at the verge from below. There it serves to cover the joint between the front board and the gable masonry and prevents the penetration of wind at this point. Often the front board is confused with the wind board.
In buildings with a large roof overhang (such as in the Alpine region), the lower cladding of the roof box takes the place of the individual windboard, which was often used as a decorative element on historic buildings and half-timbered houses . Flower ornamentation is typical. There are also elaborate paintings that depict people and objects. Many particularly beautifully designed wind boards can be seen at the bone carving office in Hildesheim .
