Windmill in grief

The Kummer windmill is a Dutch tower windmill built in 1880 in the Kummer district of the Mecklenburg town of Ludwigslust . It is on Mühlenbergstrasse. The special thing about it is the construction method, which is not very common in northern Germany: a walled round tower on an octagonal base. It belongs to the type of tower windmill (tower Dutchman). The mill has been in the family since 1883.

Today it belongs to the Höppner sawmill . The sawmill developed from a side mill to the main business. In 1948 it lost its winch, the cap and wings were dismantled and operations were switched over to motor power. After the mill ceased operations in 1988 and the building was only used as a warehouse, extensive external restoration was carried out in 2005. A new cap was built and the structure received its wing decorations and the compass rose , albeit without function.
