Windows Journal was a program developed by Microsoft for creating note-taking notes. It enables the user to create and manage handwritten notes and drawings. These handwritten notes can be made with a normal computer mouse as well as with a graphics tablet or a tablet PC .
chronology
At launch, Windows Journal was only integrated into the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition version . In the meantime, the Home Premium versions of Windows Vista and higher also included Windows Journal. It should be noted, however, that the JNT format was not disclosed and the JNT files could only be opened as long as Microsoft made a corresponding program available.
As part of the Windows Insider Program, Windows Journal was completely removed from Windows 10 without prior notice in July 2016. In view of the meanwhile very little use of the program, which has recently been replaced by other note-taking programs - such as Microsoft's OneNote program - Windows Journal will disappear by default for all Windows 10 users with the Anniversary Update on August 2, 2016. Windows Journal can, however, be installed via an update.
Journal Viewer
Windows Journal Viewer was an application created by Microsoft that made it possible to view JNT files on systems that did not have tablet PC software installed. The last one (v6.3 2014) was still available for Windows 2000 to Windows 10 in December 2015. In July 2016, the entry in MSDN still existed, but the download page for the Microsoft Journal Viewer is no longer available.
