Windows Media is a technology - platform of Microsoft , among other things, a player ( Windows Media Player ), a series of audio - and video - codecs ( Windows Media Audio , Windows Media Video , etc.) and Windows Media Encoder , Windows Media Server and a Windows Media SDK, which consists of several SDK components for different areas of application. The product line was originally introduced under the name Microsoft NetShow.

Encoder

Microsoft provides a Windows Media Encoder free of charge on its homepage, which can be used to convert audio and video recordings into Windows Media format. This product is no longer supported on newer operating systems from Windows 7 and up and has been replaced by the Microsoft Expression Encoder .
