The Winkelmann Group GmbH + Co. KG is a German group of the automotive industry , as well as the heating and hot water supply engineering, based in Ahlen , Westphalia and production sites in Germany, Poland, Turkey and China.

The company was founded in 1898 by Heinrich Winkelmann and Caspar Pannhoff as Winkelmann & Pannhoff GmbH in Ahlen. It initially produced raw parts for pots and pans, as well as coffee and milk cans, dustpans, soap basins and kettles . In 1961 car parts were produced for the first time, they were sheet metal parts for the Borgward Arabella . In 1992 the series production of parts made of thermoset began , in 1994 the first foreign subsidiary was founded in Poland.

In 2018, the Winkelmann Group has around 4,300 employees worldwide who generate EUR 627 million in annual sales (as of 2018). It includes independent legal business units worldwide, including companies in China, Mexico, Poland, Turkey and the United States.

Business areas

The core competencies of the Winkelmann group of companies are bundled in three business areas:

  • In the Building + Industry division , which operates on the market with several sales and production companies, enamelled, indirectly heated hot water storage tanks / hot water solar storage tanks, built-in pressure equalization vessels for wall-mounted heating boilers as well as the pressure equalization vessels and systems sold under the brands "reflex" and "nema" as well as make-up , Ventilation and degassing systems are supplied to wholesalers and, on a case-by-case basis, to OEMs. The product range also includes "heating distributors" from the "Sinusverteiler" brand for central heating and refrigeration systems.
  • The Automotive division with its various sales and production companies focuses on the development, manufacture and sale of engine and transmission components that are rotationally symmetrically formed from steel, aluminum and plastic. The product range also includes injection lines made of stainless steel for gasoline engines. In addition to the Ahlen location, the division produces and sells its products with subsidiaries in Poland, China and Turkey. A production site in Mexico has been under construction since 2016; Series production is scheduled to begin there in 2018.
  • In its core business, the Flowforming division deals with the development, manufacture and sale of rotationally symmetrical gear components and precision tubes made of different types of steel and non-ferrous alloys. As a result of the strain hardening, which is achieved by non-cutting forming processes, components are produced that have weight advantages. The products are used in the vehicle industry, mechanical engineering, aerospace and defense technology. The product range also includes drive shafts for engines, hydraulic cylinders for landing gears and for doors, and accumulators, which are also used in aerospace engineering. In 2015, the Flowforming division expanded with the acquisition of CNG Cylinders International LP in California / USA as a manufacturer of containers for compressed natural gas for applications in the transport industry.
  • The Steel Services division is a service provider for supplying the processing industry with steel products made from flat steel.
