The Winsbeke (= Windsbacher , it is unclear whether it is a real author's name) is a Middle High German didactic poem that was written around 1220. In the first part, an experienced knight teaches his son chivalric virtue and the theory of life. In the second part, which was probably added by a clergyman, the son exhorts the father to repentance, renounce the world and confess sins.

The Winsbekin , an imitation of the work in the same stanza form , contains a dialogue between mother and daughter about the courtly ideal of women and love .
