Winter Island is an uninhabited island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago in the Qikiqtaaluk region of the Canadian Nunavut Territory .

The 70 km² island is located in the far west of the Foxe Basin . It is separated from the Melville Peninsula by the Hoppner Strait . To the southwest lies the bay of Lyon Inlet .

In 1821/22 William Edward Parry spent the winter here with the ships HMS Hecla and HMS Fury .
