Summer rain area

Summer rain area and, as a counterpart to it, winter rain area are terms that are used to describe climate , especially in the southern hemisphere. A summer rain area is an area in which precipitation occurs primarily in the summer months there - i.e. between November and January in the southern hemisphere. Winter rain areas are accordingly those in which the rain usually falls in July / August. In the northern hemisphere, the rainy seasons are offset by six months. H. the summer rainy season of the northern hemisphere is offset by 6 months to the summer rainy season of the southern hemisphere.

Summer and winter rain areas can u. U. are very close to each other, for example in southern Africa: Cape Town and the Northern Cape Province in South Africa and the ǁKaras region in Namibia are winter rain areas. The Hardap region to the north and the rest of Namibia, on the other hand, are summer rain areas.
