The FC Oberwinterthur is a Swiss 3. Liga - Soccer Team from the Winterthur district Oberwinterthur . The club is a former participant in the second highest Swiss league in 1922/23.

history

A first club called FC Oberwinterthur was founded in 1909. Little is known in which league the club played, as there are hardly any chronicles from those years for the second highest division, but participation in the Promotion series, the second highest division at the time, in the 1922/23 season is known. In the 1923/24 season , the club lost the promotion games in the Serie A against Blue Stars Zurich .

In 1925 there was a merger with the old FC Tössfeld to form the Winterthurer Sports Club (WSV). After the merger, WSV was able to take part in the promotion games to Serie A as group winners of the Promotion series at the end of the 1925/26 season , but clearly failed against local rivals SC Veltheim with 7-0 and 7-2. In 1927 they got into the Cup 1/16 final, where they were eliminated against BSC Old Boys Basel , but otherwise the club was classified in the last places. After two seasons in the promotion series as a Winterthur sports club, the club disbanded due to a lack of players and space problems at FC Winterthur .

In a second attempt, a new FC Oberwinterthur was founded on December 19, 1934 by committed young people. However, the newly formed club stayed in the lower leagues for the longest time and never got further than the fourth highest division up. In 1949 the Talwiese sports field was inaugurated with a friendly against FC Bayern Munich (0: 6 for Bayern), and in 1957 a clubhouse was added with the help of pool money and volunteer work. In 1964 against FC Amriswil in a game in front of 2200 spectators, a promotion to the first division was just missed. In 1987 they moved to today's Hegmatten sports field in the district of the same name - today, among others, SC Hegi Winterthur plays on the Talwiesen sports field.
