The Wipkingertunnel is originally a 959 meter long double-lane railway tunnel in Zurich in Switzerland . It is part of one of the oldest railway lines in Switzerland, the Zurich – Oerlikon railway line opened in 1856 by the Swiss Northeastern Railway (NOB) . The tunnel and the line have belonged to the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) since 1902 .

The original tunnel portal is at the height of Rosengartenstrasse in Zurich's Wipkingen district . In the 1990s, around 250 meters of track were covered so that the new portal came to rest at the north bridge. The northern portal is located in Zurich's Oerlikon district in front of the Oerlikon train station .

The Wipkinger line runs from Oerlikon through the Wipkingertunnel to the directly adjoining Zurich Wipkingen train station and then over the Wipkinger viaduct to the Zurich main train station . The express trains and the S-Bahn S24 run in the Wipkingertunnel .
