The trade association wholesale metal semis e. V. (WGM) is established in 1948 in Bonn trade association for companies in the nonferrous -Metall semis trade . In the summer of 2006, the association moved its headquarters from Bonn to Berlin.

Orientation and structure

The WGM is a knowledge network and service provider for the non-ferrous metal semis trade. Trading companies are full members of the WGM, semi-finished products are supporting members. In total, the WGM has around 70 members from Germany and neighboring countries.

Offer and activities

The work of the association can be divided into five business areas: The WGM provides information and advice, develops and implements industry projects, offers seminars, is a business network and represents the interests of its members.

Information and advice

The association informs its members about topics relevant to the industry, changes in economic framework conditions, the development of the metal markets or the economic situation of important sales markets. The information services include news on topics and legislative initiatives from business, foreign trade, tax or environmental law as well as analyzes of the metal markets and the economy. This information is made available to members in the form of publications, circulars or lectures.

Companies receive free initial advice on adapting the company to national and European regulations, on technical questions about semi-finished products or on questions about complaints. General individual questions from members are also answered. Technical committees such as the Technology Working Group support the association with its information and advisory services.

The association conducts research and makes the information obtained available. The results of the research are monthly inventory and sales statistics, price statistics and quarterly business climate surveys.

Arbitration Tribunal : Members can use an arbitration tribunal to settle disputes out of court.

Business network

WGM events, such as the regional discussions, the spring meeting, the general assembly and the autumn conference, are important components of the business network. The association has adopted compliance guidelines and advocates maintaining and ensuring fair competition. As part of the association's work, the association's bodies, employees and their member companies undertake to ensure strict compliance with all requirements of antitrust and competition law .

further education

The range of seminars is tailored to the non-ferrous metal semis trade and supports member companies and their employees in further development. Verbabd offers five different types of seminars every year: beginners seminars, product seminars, JuMet seminars, management seminars and specialist seminars.

Advocacy

The association represents the interests of the non-ferrous metal semis trade towards the legislature, non-governmental organizations and national and international institutions. The focus of the advocacy group is political advice on the design and implementation of laws that are relevant for the non-ferrous metal semi-finished product trade. The guiding principle is to strengthen the importance of metals.

Industry projects

The association implements industry projects in coordination with its members. One of these projects is e.g. B. the realization of a WGM community pavilion as part of the ALUMINUM fair 2012.
