Wisdom with chicks in 2011

Wisdom is a female Laysanalbatross who is believed to be the world'soldest ringed bird in thewild. In 2017 the bird resumed the breeding business at the age of at least 67 years.

Albatrosses are monogamous . Wisdom has raised numerous chicks with her partner Akeakamai . She returns annually to the Midway Atoll , where she laid an egg and began to breed again in December 2017.

On the Midway Islands, the adult Wisdom was ringed by the American ornithologist Chandler Robbins in 1956 when it was also breeding there . Since Laysanal broilers do not breed for the first time until the age of 5 years at the earliest, the estimated age for the animal is at least 67 years (as of 2018). The normal life expectancy is around 50 years.
