The Witold Gombrowicz Museum is located in a former mansion in Wsola , a village near Radom in the Polish Masovian Voivodeship . Here he wrote his most famous novel Ferdydurke .

building

The mansion was built in 1914 for Jakub Grobicki based on designs by the Finnish architect August Furuhjelm. The building, which is characterized by neoclassicism , also has elements of Art Nouveau . In the 1920s, the villa came into the possession of Maria Pruszak, who gave it to her niece Aleksandra, wife of Jerzy Gombrowicz, Witold Gombrowicz's older brother.

After the Second World War , the property was nationalized and various charities were housed in the villa. In 2005, the Powiat Radomski district sold the mansion including the park of the Masovian Voivodeship, which set up the Witold Gombrowicz Museum there. The museum was inaugurated on October 10, 2009 in the presence of Rita Gombrowicz , the writer's widow.
