Rita Gombrowicz (* 1935 in Pierrefonds , now Montreal ) is a French-Canadian literary scholar and widow of the Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz .

biography

Rita Gombrowicz, née Labrosse, was born to a Canadian farmer whose ancestors came from Normandy and Burgundy . After completing her schooling in a Catholic boarding school , she studied French literature at the University of Montreal , the Sorbonne and the University of Nice-Aix-en-Provence , where she completed her studies with a doctoral thesis on Colette . During her studies in Paris, Rita Gombrowicz lived temporarily in the Heinrich Heine House of the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris .

In May 1964 she met the Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz in the Royaumont monastery . In the fall of 1964, she and Witold Gombrowicz moved to Vence , where the couple married on December 28, 1968. After the death of her husband in 1969, she spent seven years in Milan . Today Rita Gombrowicz lives in Paris and dedicates herself to the dissemination of her husband's work, which has been translated into 37 languages.

In 2007 Rita Gombrowicz was made an honorary citizen of the Polish city of Lublin .
