The term "funniest joke in the world" comes from Richard Wiseman (2002) from the University of Hertfordshire and summarizes the results of his research. Wiseman conducted an investigation for which he set up a website called "LaughLab" where jokes could be posted and rated. The aim was to find the joke that had the most attention and understanding among different cultures , peoples and countries.

The History Channel even brought out a special about this.

The joke that won was based on a sketch on the Goon Show (1951) by Spike Milligan . Gurpal Gosal from Manchester had sent in this joke.

Two hunters are in the forest when one of them collapses. He is no longer breathing and his gaze is fixed. The other hunter picks up his phone and calls the ambulance: “My friend is dead!
