Woldemar Alexander Valerian von Boeckmann ( Russian Владимир Александрович Бекман , transcribed Vladimir Alexandrowitsch Bekman ; born May 31, 1848 in Saint Petersburg ; †  November 26, 1923 in the sanatorium in Halila , Finland - today Sosnowy Bor, Russia ) was a Russian politician.

Life

Wladimir von Boeckmann (also Böckmann ) was general of the cavalry from 1907 to 1917 . 1905/06 he held the post of Russian governor of Courland . He was then from February 2, 1908 to November 24, 1909 Tsarist Governor General in Finland .

During his tenure, Boeckmann did not agree with the repressive measures taken by the Russian authorities during the so-called "second phase of suppression" ( Finnish toinen sortokausi ) in Finland. Because of this, he lost the favor of the court in Saint Petersburg . His successor Franz Albert Seyn took up the post of Governor General on November 24, 1909 and, on behalf of Tsar Nicholas II, implemented an authoritarian Russification policy aimed at abolishing Finnish autonomy.
