Vladimir Alexandrowitsch Plungjan ( Russian Владимир Александрович Плунгян ; born September 13, 1960 in Moscow ) is a Russian linguist . Plungjan is a specialist in the fields of language typology , grammar theory , morphology , African studies , corpus linguistics and poetics .

He is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAW) and works at the Institute for Russian Language at RAW, at the Institute for Linguistics at RAW, and as a professor at Moscow State University .

His main areas of work are the Dogon language in Mali, the theory of morphology, the comparative exploration of verbal categories such as tense , aspect and mode in the languages ​​of the world, and corpus linguistics . He is one of the founders of the national corpus of the Russian and East Armenian national corpus .

In 2017 Plungjan was elected to the Academia Europaea .
