Vladimir Kim

Vladimir Sergeyevich Kim (also spelled Vladimir Kim ; Russian Владимир Сергеевич Ким ; born October 29, 1960 in Myrsakent , South Kazakhstan Oblast , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh billionaire and entrepreneur. He is also the majority owner of the Kazakhmys company . According to the Forbes magazine his personal fortune is estimated at about 4.7 billion US dollars estimated Kim is thus the richest person in Kazakhstan.

Life

Vladimir Kim was born in 1961 in Myrsakent , in the south of what is now Kazakhstan , then part of the Soviet Union . Both parents are members of the Korean minority in the former Soviet Union (so-called Korjo-Saram ). After Kim had completed his school education, he then held various political offices in the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in Alma-Ata . After the collapse of the Soviet Union , he studied abroad, including in Germany , Switzerland , South Korea and the United States . In 2002 he joined the Kazakh ruling party Nur Otan .

From 1992 to 1997 he headed the joint venture “Kazakhstan Samsung ” and was also active in the management of other companies. In 1997 he moved to the board of directors of the Kazakh mining company Kazakhmys , and in 1998 he received his doctorate in the United States. In 2000 he took over a large part of the shares in Kazakhmys directly from the Kazakh state. According to Forbes Magazine , his net worth at the beginning of 2011 was around 4.7 billion euros.

Kim now lives in Almaty , the largest city in Kazakhstan. He is married and has three children. He is said to have good contacts with the Kazakh government.
