history

The party was officially registered as Otan on February 12, 1999 . It emerged from a number of parties that announced their dissolution. In 2006 the Assar party merged with the Otan. In December of the same year, two more parties, the Peasant Party with 102,000 members and the Citizens' Party with 160,000 members, the Otan joined, and the name of the party was changed to Nur Otan .

elections

In the parliamentary elections in August 2007 she won 88 percent of the vote and, since none of the opposition parties was able to overcome the seven percent hurdle, all 98 parliamentary seats. The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said the election did not meet international standards, especially in terms of counting votes and implementing new legislation. The opposition parties did not recognize the result and spoke of massive manipulation. The party reacted calmly to the criticism. Bakyzhan Shumagulov , the party's deputy chairman, said of the manipulation allegations: There is hardly anything less of interest to me.

Nur Otan won 80.99% of the vote in the parliamentary elections in January 2012 . For the first time in over eight years, representatives of opposition parties moved into the Kazakh parliament, including the Ak Schol Democratic Party with eight and the Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan with seven. Nevertheless, the Nur Otan party has 83 of 107 seats in parliament and was thus able to rule alone. The OSCE criticized the fact that the parliamentary elections had not met democratic standards, although they were well organized. The opposition once again condemned the elections as fraudulent and announced protests.
