The Democratic Party of Kazakhstan Ak Zhol ( Kazakh Қазақстанның "Ақ жол" Демократиялық Партиясы ( "Ақ жол" ҚДП) , transcribed Qazaqstan Demokratiyalyk Partiyası Ak Zhol , German  The clear way , Russian Демократическая партия Казахстана "Ак жол" ) is a liberal party in Kazakhstan .

overview

The party was approved by the Justice Department on April 3, 2002 and currently has 175,862 members.

The main tasks of the party are reforms of the political system , the realization of the constitutional rights and freedoms of the citizens of Kazakhstan, the creation of transparent mechanisms for the formation of state organs, the decentralization of power, the unrestricted activity of independent mass media , the effective functioning of the Civil service, increased responsibility and independence of the government, the eligibility of Akime ( governor ) in the areas and the creation of the institution of the prefect of an authorized representative of the republic in the regions of Kazakhstan.

According to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , Ak Schol is not an opposition party, but very loyal to the regime. The party leader Asat Peruaschew is close to Timur Kulibajew , the son-in-law of the head of state Nazarbayev .

In the 2004 parliamentary elections, the party received 12.04% of all votes and got two seats in the lower house of parliament . In the elections on August 18, 2007, it only got 192,155 votes or 3.27% and thus failed to pass the five percent hurdle . In the last election on January 16, 2012 , Ak Schol won 7.47% of the vote and moved into the lower house of parliament with eight members. However, according to the international observers of the OSCE, this election fell short of the fundamental principles of democratic elections.

According to the German Hanns Seidel Foundation , the "Business and Entrepreneurship" Ak Schol must be classified as loyal to the state. Even if Ak Schol was originally a “real” opposition party, it has since been undermined by representatives of President Nazarbayev.
