Parliamentary election in Kazakhstan 2004
The parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan in 2004 took place on September 19, 2004. 77 members of the Mäschilis , the lower house of the Kazakh parliament, were elected. 67 MPs were elected by direct election in constituencies and a further ten MPs were chosen by proportional representation on the party list. The OSCE found that the election did not meet democratic standards.
Parties
Twelve parties ran for election. The parties Otan , Asar and the electoral bloc “Agrarian and Industrial Union of the Workers 'Block”, which consisted of the Agrarian Party and the Citizens' Party, were loyal to the government. The opposition parties were the Ak Schol Democratic Party and the "Oppositional Union of Communists and DAK Block", which consisted of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan and the Democratic Alternative. In addition, five other parties were allowed to vote: the Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan , the Social Democratic Party of Auyl , the Democratic Party , the Party of Patriots of Kazakhstan and Ruchanijat .
