The Mäschilis or Majlis is the lower house in the two-chamber parliamentary system of Kazakhstan . The upper house is the Senate .
107 MPs are elected to the lower house for four years each. 9 MPs are appointed by the Kazakh President to represent ethnic minorities .

The 2016 parliamentary election took place on March 20, 2016. The only ruling party is the Kazakh party Nur Otan .
The current distribution of seats is as follows:
- Only Otan 84 seats
- Democratic Party Ak Schol 7 seats
- Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan 7 seats
- Appointed representatives of ethnic minorities 9 seats
Seat
The parliament complex for both chambers, Mäschilis and Senate, is located in the capital Nur-Sultan . It was built in 2004. The Mäschilis Tower is 100 meters high, making it one of the tallest buildings in Kazakhstan . The parliament complex is located in the new government district near the Ak Orda presidential palace .
