The People's Assembly ( Abkhazian Аҧсны Жәлар Реизара / Abhasnji Tseljap Reizara , Russian Народное Собрание / Narodnoje Sobranije ) is the parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia, which is internationally recognized by only a few countries .

The People's Assembly is a unicameral parliament , whose 35 members are elected for five years. The election is based on majority voting . To achieve a parliamentary mandate, a candidate must receive more than 50% of the votes cast in his constituency. If no candidate reaches the required majority in a constituency, a runoff election takes place in which the two candidates who received the most votes stand for election again.

Parliamentary President from 2002 to 2012 was Nugsar Aschuba , his successor is Valeri Bganba . A frequent criticism of the composition of the parliament is that the national minorities (mainly Russians , Georgians and Armenians ) are not represented according to their demographic share in the population of Abkhazia.
