Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan ( Kazakh Қазақстан Республикасы Парламентіның Сенаты , Russian Сенат Парламента Республики Казахстана ) is the upper house in the parliamentary bicameral system of Kazakhstan . The Senate has its seat in the capital Nur-Sultan .

Election of deputies to the Senate

The House of Lords 47 basic mandates, the number changing as former presidents move into the Senate after their term in office. The members of the Senate are appointed as follows:

15 members of the Senate, who are dedicated to representing national-cultural and other important public interests in the Senate, are appointed by the Kazakh President.
32 Members are from the MPs Maslichate elected
Former Presidents of the Republic who automatically move into the Senate after their term of office will receive additional seats

The members of the Senate are elected for 6 years, with half of the members being re-elected every 3 years. Every MP must be at least 30 years old and highly qualified, have lived in the area to be represented for at least three years and have been in a profession for five years.

Tasks of the Senate

As the Chamber of Parliament, the Senate is responsible for legislating with the Mäschilis . The law or the draft bill only enters the Senate after it has been processed in the Mäschilis.

Further tasks of the Senate:

Appointment of the president after election or dismissal of the president at his own request or end of office
Appointment or dismissal of the Chairman of the Supreme Court and the members of the Supreme Court
Approval or rejection of the President-appointed Chairman of the National Bank, Attorney General, of the Chairman of the National Security Committee
Deprivation of the inviolability of the Attorney General, the presiding judge and the judges of the Supreme Court
Appoint two members of the Constitutional Council
