Nurtai Äbiqajuly Äbiqajew ( Kazakh Нұртай Әбіқайұлы Әбіқаев , Russian Нуртай Абыкаевич Абыкаев / Nurtaj Abykajewitsch Abykajew * 15. May 1947 in Jambul, Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh diplomat and politician . He is a member of the Kazakh Senate .

biography

Äbiqayev graduated from the Urals State Technical University . After his military service, he worked from 1972 to 1976 in a mechanical engineering factory in Alma-Ata , Kazakhstan, and began to get involved in the Communist Party of Kazakhstan . He became assistant to the chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of the Kazakh SSR in 1988.

In 1990 he became Chief of Staff of the President and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and a member of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 1995, Äbiqayev was sent to the United Kingdom as Kazakhstan's ambassador , but returned to Kazakhstan in September 1996 as assistant to President Nursultan Nazarbayev . In 1998, Äbiqayev was appointed chairman of the National Security Committee, the Kazakh secret service. After it became public that the Kazakh Defense Ministry apparently wanted to sell 30 old MiG fighter jets from the holdings of the Kazakh military to North Korea , the then Defense Minister Muchtar Altynbayev and Äbiqayev were dismissed for gross violations of the arms trade laws in August 1999.

It didn't take long after that before he returned to politics. He was appointed Deputy Foreign Minister in April 2000; only a few months later he became head of the presidential administration, which he headed from January 2002 to March 2004. He was then chairman of the Kazakh Senate and from February 12, 2012 Kazakh ambassador to Russia . In 2008 he went back to Kazakhstan and on October 14, 2008 was again Deputy Foreign Minister.

From August 23, 2010 to December 25, 2015, he was again Chairman of the National Security Committee. Since then he has been a member of the Committee on International Relations, Defense and Security of the Kazakh Senate .

In 2002 he was awarded the Order of Friendship and in 2007 the Order of Honor .

Private

Äbiqayev is married and has two sons and a daughter and five grandchildren.
