The House of Representatives ( tagalog : Kapulungán ng mgá Kinatawán ng Pilipinas or Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ) is the lower house of the Congress in the bicameral system in the Philippines .

The deputies are elected for three years. The House of Representatives is located in Quezon City near the capital, Manila .

history

The first elections to a forerunner of the House of Representatives in the Philippines were held on June 30, 1907. This parliament was called the Philippine Assembly . The Philippines' first House of Representatives was introduced with the creation of the Philippine legislature in 1916. With the establishment of the Commonwealth of the Philippines in 1935, the parliamentary system was reduced to a unicameral system . It was not until 1940 that the way was clear for the reintroduction of the bicameral system, the Commonwealth Congress . The first elections to the House of Representatives of Congress took place in November 1941, but due to the Japanese attack on December 8th, it did not meet again. The House of Representatives only met again for the first time after the elections in August 1945.

The last elections took place in 2019.
