Valery Bganba ( Abkhazian Валери Рамшух-иҧа Бганба , Russian Валерий Рамшухович Бганба , born August 26, 1953 in Bsyb , Abkhazian ASSR , Georgian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Abkhazian politician. He was the Prime Minister of Abkhazia from September 18, 2018 to April 24, 2020 and was previously President of the Abkhaz parliament.

Life

After graduating from school in 1969, he worked for two years in a wood combine, from 1971 to 1976 he attended the Kuban Agricultural University in Krasnodar . He then worked as an agronomist in various institutions in Abkhazia, and from 1989 as director of a tobacco plantation.

Bganba was elected to the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Abkhazia, which was formed as part of the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 and was renamed the People's Assembly shortly afterwards , and was a member of parliament until 1997. From 1998 to 2002 he was chairman of the regional parliament of Gagra district , from 2002 to 2006 chairman of the regional government of Gagra district. From 2007 he became a member of the Abkhaz People's Assembly again, and he was elected President in 2012. When President Alexander Ankwab had to resign in 2014 as part of the protests in Abkhazia , Bganba acted as President of Parliament from May to September.

After the previous Prime Minister of Abkhazia, Gennadi Gagulija , died in a car accident in early September 2018, President Raul Khadschimba appointed Bganba as Abkhazian Prime Minister on September 18 . After the resignation of Khadjimba, Bganba was appointed provisionally President of Abkhazia by the People's Assembly on January 13, 2020. After Aslan Bschania was elected, he took over the presidency on April 23, 2020. A day later, Bganba gave his farewell speech as Prime Minister.

He is married and has two sons and a daughter.
