Anri Dschergenija

Anri Dschergenija (also Anri Jergenia ; Abkhaz Анри Михаил-иҧа Џьергьениа ; Russian Анри Михайлович Джергения * 8. August 1941 in Leningrad , RSFSR , USSR , † 5. January 2020 in Moscow ) was an Abkhazian politicians . From June 2001 to November 2002 he was Prime Minister of the disputed Republic of Abkhazia , whose independence from Georgia is largely not recognized internationally.

Life

Dschergenija was born in Leningrad (today: Saint Petersburg) in 1941, moved to Abkhazia with his mother at the age of two and studied law at Lomonosov University in Moscow from 1958 to 1963 . From 1975 to 1978 he was a judge at the Sukhumi People's Court, from 1978 until the collapse of the Soviet Union and the ensuing outbreak of the Georgian-Abkhazian war in 1992, a judge at the Supreme Court of the Abkhaz ASSR . After the war he became the Attorney General of Abkhazia.

On June 7, 2001, Dschergenia was appointed Prime Minister of Abkhazia. Due to the poor health of President Wladislaw Ardsinba , Dschergenia was considered a leading figure in the Abkhazian government for a long time during his tenure, while former prime ministers were much more bound by instructions from the president. In November 2002, however, Dschergenija was unexpectedly dismissed by the seriously ill President Ardsinba. Officially, the dismissal was justified on the basis of budget deficits. a. Dschergenia’s quite blatant ambitions for the office of president and thus the successor to Ardsinba. Dschergenija's successor was Gennady Gagulija .

In 2004, Dschergenia ran unsuccessfully as President of Abkhazia, he received only 2.63% of the votes in the direct election, in absolute numbers 2277.

Dschergenija was married and had two children.
