Leonid Lakerbaja

Leonid Lakerbaja ( Russian Леонид Иванович Лакербая ; Abkhazian Леонид Лакербаиа ; born January 1, 1947 in Kutaisi , Georgian SSR ) is an Abkhazian politician. From 2011 to 2014 he was Prime Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia, which is recognized by only a few countries.

Life

Leonid Lakerbaja studied in Moscow and at the time of the Soviet Union worked in an automobile company in Abkhazia and later was director of a company for frozen products in Gagra . From 1991 he sat in the parliament of Abkhazia. From June 1995 to June 1996, Lakerbaja was the foreign minister of his country, which had achieved de facto independence from Georgia after the collapse of the Soviet Union .

In 2005 he became Deputy Prime Minister of Sergei Bagapsch's government . After the presidential election in Abkhazia in 2011 , Lakerbaya became Prime Minister of his country on September 27, 2011 under President Alexander Ankwab . With the fall of Ankwab in late May 2014, Lakerbaja's time at the head of the cabinet also ended. He resigned on June 2, handing over the office to Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Vladimir Delba .
