The Abkhaz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (abbr. AbASSR , Russian Абхазская Автономная Советская Социалистическая Республика , Abkhaz Аҧснытәи Автономтә Советтә Социалисттә Республика / Apsnytwi Awtonomtu Sowettu Sozialisttu Respublika, Georgian აფხაზეთის ავტონომიური საბჭოთა სოციალისტური რესპუბლიკა / Apchasetis Awtonomiuri Sabtschota Sozialisturi Respublika) was an autonomous republic within the Soviet Union- owned Georgian SSR .

The AbASSR was founded in 1931 and existed until 1991. Its predecessor was the Abkhaz Soviet Socialist Republic . This was equal to the other Soviet republics, while as AbASSR it became part of the Georgian SSR.

The central central belt asteroid (2671) Abkhazia is named after the Abkhaz Autonomous Socialist Soviet Republic.
