The Rajon Gagra ( Abkhaz араион Гагра , Gagra araion ; Russian район Гагрский , Gagrski rayon , Georgian გაგრის რაიონი Gagris Raioni ) is a Rajon (corresponding to about one district ) in the internationally by only a few countries recognized de facto from Georgia independent republic Abkhazia .

The capital of the Rajons is the eponymous city of Gagra . The Rajon covers an area of ​​772.4 km² and has 40,217 inhabitants (2011). The population density is therefore 52 inhabitants per km 2 . 38.5% of the population are Abkhazians , 38.3% Armenians , 15.7% Russians and 2.5% Georgians (as of 2011).

Another city besides Gagra is Pizunda (Georgian Bitschwinta ). There are also two urban-type settlements, Bsypta (Bsipi) and Zandrypsch (Gantiadi) and ten village administrations with a total of 35 villages.

According to Georgian law, which is not in effect in Abkhazia, the area has been the municipality of Gagra (Georgian გაგრის მუნიციპალიტეტი , Gagris munizipaliteti ) of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia since 2006 .
