Mtskheta-Mtianeti ( Georgian მცხეთა-მთიანეთი ; completely მცხეთა-მთიანეთის მხარე , Mtskheta-Mtianetis mchare ) is a region of Georgia . It is located in the eastern part of the country and borders on Russia in the north, the Kakheti region in the east, the Lower Cartilia region in the south and the Inner Kartlien region in the west . The capital of the region is Mtskheta .

Mtskheta-Mtianeti comprises five municipalities (munizipaliteti); four of them are named after their administrative centers Akhalgori , Dusheti , Mzcheta and Tianeti , while the Stepantsminda is the seat of the municipality of Qasbegi (the place was also named Qasbegi from 1921 to 2006 ). The city of Mtskheta as the regional capital was detached from its municipalities in 2014 and is now on an equal footing with the municipalities. The territory of the municipality Akhalgori is subject since the beginning of südossetisch-Georgian conflict in 1991 in part and since the Caucasus 2008 war in its entire extent not the Georgian central government, but the de facto independent , recognized only by some countries Republic of South Ossetia , which the site as their Rajon Leningor managed .
