The Tkuartschal Raion (also Tkwartscheli Raion ; Abkhazian Тҟәарчал араион Tq'wartschal araion ; Russian Ткварчельский район Tkwartschelski rajon ; Georgian ტყვარჩელის რაიონი Tqwartschelis is one of the few administrative states recognized internationally by the eight administrative units of Ab Raioni ) . It is located in the east of the country, on the border with Georgia and is the only Rajon in Abkhazia that does not border the Black Sea . The capital is Tqwartscheli (Tkuartschal). The population was around 16,000 in 2011, the majority (62.4%) of whom are ethnic Georgians and Mingrelians . There is also a large Abkhaz minority (32%), as well as numerous Russians (3.35%) and members of other ethnic groups.

In contrast to most of the other regions in the country, the Tkuartschal region exists within its borders exclusively within the administrative structures of Abkhazia. According to the Georgian point of view, the area is divided between the municipalities of Ochamtschire and Gali.
