The administrative center of the municipality is the eponymous town of Terdschola . The municipality occupies the hill country that delimits the Imeretian Plain in the northeast and rises gradually from a good 100  m above sea level in the southwest to over 400  m in the north and northeast; the northern border is formed by a mountain range rising relatively steeply above the plain, which in the extreme northeast of the municipality reaches a height of 1037  m .

The southern and eastern borders of the municipality are marked over large sections by the Qwirila river , its right tributary Cholaburi and its left source river Budscha, the western border the right Qwirila tributary Zqalzitela . Through the area lost the right Qwirila tributaries Dsewri and Tschchari and the right Tscholaburi source flow Dsussa.

history

From the collapse of the Kingdom of Georgia in the 15th century until the 19th century, the area belonged virtually continuously to the Kingdom of Imereti . While Georgia was part of the Russian Empire , it was located in the Ujesden Kutais and Shorapani of the Kutais Governorate , to which it belonged until the early years of the Soviet Union.

In 1930 the new Chchari Rajon, named after the river and the village of the same name, located about 8 km north of Terdschola, was expelled within today's boundaries . In 1950 the administrative seat was moved to Terdschola and the Rajon was renamed accordingly. After the independence of Georgia, Terjola Rajon was assigned to the newly formed Imereti region in 1995 and converted into a municipality in 2006.

traffic

The international highway S1 ( ს 1 ) runs through the southern part of the municipality, a few kilometers south of the administrative center Terdschola, from Tbilisi to the Russian or Abkhazian border (on this section also European route 60 ). From this branching off through Terdschola and further to the neighboring municipality of Tqibuli to the north , the national road Sch19 ( შ 19 ) runs. From the Sch19, north of Terdschola, the Sch102 ( შ 102 ) branches off to the east of Chiatura . In the west of the municipality, the old route of the S1 and the national road Sch108 ( შ 108 ) are feeders between the new S1, which has been expanded into a motorway there , and the center of the city of Kutaisi.

The railway line Poti - Tbilisi (- Baku) runs mostly just outside the municipal border on the left bank of Qwirila and Cholaburi; The Argweta train station, which is the closest to the city of Terdschola, is also located a good seven kilometers south of the city in the direction of Sestaponi .
