The Qwirila ( Georgian ყვირილა ; Ossetian Квирила , Kwirila ) is a left tributary of the Rioni in Georgia .

The Qwirila rises in the Ratscha Mountains on the southern flank of the Great Kauskasus in the extreme north-west of the Inner Kartlien region . The headwaters of the river are in South Ossetia . The Qwirila initially flows south and later west. It crosses the border to the Imereti region . It passes the small towns of Satschchere and Chiatura and gradually turns to the southwest. Up to the confluence of the Dsirula from the left near Schorapani , the Qwirila flows in a narrow gorge. Then it changes course, flows in a wide valley in a west-northwest direction and passes the town of Sestaponi . Shortly before Kutaisi it turns to the southwest and flows into the Warziche reservoir through which the Rioni flows .

The Qwirila has a length of 140 km (according to other sources 152 km). It drains an area of 3630 km². The river is mainly fed by rainfall . At the Sestafoni gauge, 42 km above the estuary, the mean discharge is 61 m³ / s. At the mouth it is about 90 m³ / s.

In the past, rafting was carried out on the Qwirila .

In the catchment area of the Qwirila near Chiatura there are deposits of manganese ore .
