The Shuachewi municipality ( Georgian შუახევის მუნიციპალიტეტი , Shuachewis munizipaliteti ) is an administrative unit (roughly equivalent to a district ) in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara in Georgia .

The administrative center of the municipality shuakhevi is the Market town shuakhevi . The area is 588 km². At 15,044 (2014), the population has fallen sharply compared to the previous census (21,850 inhabitants in 2002).

In the north, the municipality of Shuachewi is bounded by the municipalities of Osurgeti and Tschochatauri , in the east by the municipalities of Chulo , in the west by the municipalities of Keda and Kobuleti and in the south by Turkey . The municipality is mountainous. The highest mountains in the administrative district are Chewa with 2812 meters (in the Shavschet Mountains on the border with Turkey) and Taginauri with 2662 meters (in the Meschetian Mountains in the northern part of the municipality). The largest river is the Ajariszqali . The municipality is rich in natural resources and mineral springs, the climate in the valleys is subtropical . The average air temperature is 11.4 ° C and the average rainfall is 1200–1500 mm.
The largest towns besides Shuachewi (797 inhabitants) are Chitschauri , Nenia , Nigaseuli and Purtio (2014), each with over 500 inhabitants . The municipality is divided into the independent capital Shuachewi and nine municipalities (Georgian temi, თემი ) with a total of 68 villages:
