The Shavshet Mountains ( Georgian შავშეთის ქედი ) is a mountain range in the south of the autonomous republic of Adjara in southwest Georgia and in the north of the Turkish province of Artvin .
The Shavschet Mountains extend over a length of 65 km in a west-east direction. It forms the watershed between the Ajariszqali in the north and the Matschachliszqali in the south. In the west it extends to the chorochi . The western part is in Adjara, while the eastern part forms the border between Adjara and Turkey. In the east it borders on the Arsiani Mountains (Yalnızçam Dağları). The Karçal Mountains branch off from the eastern ridge to the south. The district of Şavşat (Georgian Shawscheti ) with the main town of the same name, Şavşat, is located southeast of the mountain range . The highest peak of the Shavshet Mountains is the 2812 m high Chewa . The mountains consist mainly of plateau-like areas. The rock consists of volcanic flysch and sandstone . The mountain slopes are covered by deciduous, deciduous and spruce forests. Subalpine vegetation grows on the mountain ridges .
