The municipality Osurgeti ( Georgian ოზურგეთის მუნიციპალიტეტი , Osurgetis munizipaliteti ) is an administrative unit (roughly equivalent to a district ) in the Guria region in western Georgia .

The administrative seat of the municipality Osurgeti is located in the eponymous city of Osurgeti , which, however, does not belong to the municipality itself, but is directly subordinate to the region. The area is 675 km². With 48,078 inhabitants (2014), the number of inhabitants has decreased by about a fifth compared to the previous census (60,055 inhabitants in 2002 within today's limits; the city of Osurgeti was spun off afterwards).

In the north, the municipality of Osurgeti is bounded by the municipality of Lanchchuti , in the northeast by the municipality of Chochatauri and in the south by the municipalities of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Kobuleti and Shuachewi . In the west it borders on the Black Sea . The territory of the municipality mainly includes the valleys of the two largest rivers Supsa and Natanebi . The area is rich in natural resources.
The population is almost mono-ethnic Georgian ; there are also a small number of Russians and Armenians .
The largest localities besides the four small or minor towns (Georgian daba , დაბა ) Laituri (2697 inhabitants), Narudscha (2148 inhabitants), Nassakirali (2898 inhabitants) and Ureki (1166 inhabitants) are the villages Bochwauri , Chrialeti, each with over 1000 inhabitants , Dwabsu , Gurianta , Kwemo Natanebi , Melekeduri , Meria , Osurgeti (independent village northwest of the city of the same name, across the Natanebi River), Schemokmedi and Semo Natanebi (2014).
In addition to the four independent minor cities of Laituri, Narudscha, Nassakirali and Ureki, the municipality is divided into 24 municipalities (Georgian temi, თემი or simply "village", Georgian sopeli, სოფელი ) with a total of 70 localities:

Culture and sights
In the municipality there is the Osurgeti theater, a youth theater and other festival halls; There are also some museums, of which the Ekwtime Taqaishvili Museum is particularly well known.
There are important medieval buildings in the municipality, mainly the monastery and church buildings, such as the Shemokmedi and Dschumati monasteries, as well as the Atschi and Lichauri churches . There are medieval fortresses in some villages, such as Askana and Lichauri . The ruins of the former town of Waschnari are also in the municipality . A major attraction is the Gurieli Palace .
