The Meschetian Mountains ( Georgian მესხეთი ); also Ajaro-Imeretisches Mountains ; ( Russian Месхетский хребет, Аджаро-Имеретинский ) forms the western part of the Lesser Caucasus .
The Meschetian Mountains stretch from the Black Sea coast of Adjara in the west to the Borjomi gorge of the Kura in the east. Its eastern continuation is the Trialeti Mountains . The mountain range extends over a length of 150 km. It reaches a maximum height of 2850 m in the Mepiszqaro . The mountain range consists of sedimentary rock from flysch and volcanic rock ( tuff and andesite ). The mountain ridges are covered by mountain heather. Summer green deciduous forest ( beech and hornbeam ) and conifers grow on the mountain slopes .
