Presidential election in Kazakhstan 1991
The presidential election in Kazakhstan took place on December 1, 1991. It was the Kazakh President's first election since Kazakhstan declared its sovereignty within the Soviet Union . The previous head of government of the Kazakh SSR , Nursultan Nazarbayev , emerged victorious from the election, in which there was only one candidate .
