Bauyrschan Qydyrghaliuly Baibek ( Kazakh Бауыржан Қыдырғалиұлы Байбек , Russian Бауыржан Кыдыргалиулы Байбек * 19th March 1974 in Alma-Ata , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh politician. He has been Nur Otan's first deputy party chairman since June 2019 .

Life

Baibek was born on March 19, 1974 in Alma-Ata , the capital of the Kazakh SSR , and first attended a music school in his hometown. In the early 1990s he received a scholarship from the Bolaschaq program, a Kazakh scholarship program that enables Kazakh students to study abroad. Bauyrschan Baibek completed a program at the Goethe Institute in Bremen in 1994 and then studied at the Lübeck University of Music .

After studying abroad, Baibek was employed in the diplomatic service. Between 1999 and 2002 he worked at the Kazakh Consulate General in Frankfurt am Main as personal assistant and attaché as well as secretary of the economic department in the Kazakh embassy in Berlin . From 2002 to 2006 he then held various positions in the administration of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev , with whom Baibek is said to have close contacts. He was then Chief of Protocol to the President before becoming Deputy Head of Presidential Administration in August 2009.

In January 2013 he became vice chairman of the presidential party Nur Otan . When he was appointed, Nazarbayev said of him: “He is young, he will soon be 40. He worked for about four years as deputy head of the administration [of the president]. He was at all regional branches of our party. All Äkime (mayors and governors) know him. I hope that it will help to attract more young people to our party. It is very important for the country that they bring in their young spirit and creative thinking. I am sure he will do well. I think he is able to handle the demands of this task. That's why I made this decision and appointed him. "

Since August 8, 2015, Baibek was the mayor of Almaty. After around four years at the city's top, he was appointed the first deputy leader of the Nur Otan party on June 29, 2019 .
